TAKE ACTION- VOLUNTEER

Join in the vision of protecting these sacred lands in the Pine Barrens. Currently, The Medicine Waters Conservancy is seeking volunteers to help with the following:

Pine Barrens Campaign Volunteers:

Volunteers will be needed for many roles in the Capital Campaign to purchase lands in the Pine Barrens. We need those willing to "campaign" i.e. make personal contacts to potential donors as well as those willing to serve in leadership roles and recruit others to be involved. If you are able to volunteer for this, please contact the office to discuss details. We will also need assistance in identifying potential foundation and corporate sponsors who fund land acquisition for preservation and those who may be able to assist in writing grants to these organizations. If you would like to be involved in the campaign, please complete the volunteer form by clicking here and let us know your interest as well as the skills you would bring as a volunteer for the campaign.

Caretaking Committee Volunteers:

A committee is being formed to assist with the design and implementation of the Caretaking program. We are seeking experienced people with degrees in forestry, ecology, or related disciplines along with people who have taken Tom's Caretaking and/or Nature classes who would like to volunteer their time and efforts to see this plan brought to fruition.

We especially need people with knowledge and experience in forestry. Additionally, we are looking for writers, designers to create a brochure describing the plan as part of an outreach program, as well as other people knowledgeable in areas that might be able to offer help- and “help” here means having some time to put into our efforts!

If you are interested in working in a committee, please email Malcolm at mringwalt@mac.com and use the subject line "Caretaker Committee". For practicality, there are a limited number of slots available so please include a brief letter describing what you bring to the table—a resume, if you will.

Other Volunteer Needs:

  • Lawyer- we currently need assistance with review of policies and waivers. We will need assistance from a lawyer with expertise in land management, acquisition and related legal matters. We could also use someone willing to speak with potential donors regarding the best structuring of their planned giving to include The Medicine Waters Conservancy in their Will.
  • Data Entry- we have a significant amount of data that needs to be input in our new donor software program. The system is pretty straight forward to use, so if you have time, we could certainly use the assistance.
  • Accountant- we are looking for an accountant with non-profit experience to assist with tax filing and/or audits and a review of our systems.
  • Photographs- we are seeking photographs- both current and historical of the Tracker School and the lands that have been traditionally used for classes. We prefer to receive photographs in a jpeg format but can work with you if that's not possible.
  • Grants- please let us know if you become aware of any grant opportunities that fit with the mission and vision of The Medicine Waters Conservancy. We are specifically looking for grants for equipment such as GPS units for the caretaking program and, of course, any that are targeted at land acquisition for conservation purposes. We would also gladly accept assistance in writing grants as well.
  • Skills- You can share your skills by donating items you create to the Medicine Waters Conservancy. Whether it's painting, basketry, bows, knives, clothing- whatever your talent, your items can be used for raffle or auctions that will help raise funds for the Conservancy.

Our volunteer needs are often changing. If you cannot currently volunteer or have skills suited for other tasks, please fill out the volunteer form and mail it to the Medicine Waters Conservancy at: PO Box 487, Waretown, NJ 08758. We will keep it on file and contact you when appropriate volunteer opportunities arise.
